Don't forget to worm you horses in the spring and fall.
Check your fencing weekly for broken boards, loose fencing and to make sure your electric fencing has full charge.
I like to wash my water troughs out weekly, makes happier horses.
A good way to help keep hooves from being over dry, is to wet the ground around water troughs. Their feet will stay moist.
Always make sure your horses have a dry safe place to get out of the cold and rain, older horses especially.
Horses can stand the cold if they aren't exposed to wind, rain and heavy snow.
Try and feed your older horses a little extra hay in the winter, it helps keep them warmer.
MSM in your older horses feed once a day helps with the pains of old age.
When picking your stalls in the summer, crushed white lime sprinkled in the wet areas will help keep flies away. Always replace fresh clean saw shavings.
Try to not use saw dust if possible, saw shavings is much better for your horses breathing. Check with local saw mills they usually give it away or charge a small fee per truck load.
Picking stalls daily helps keep cleaner stalls and fewer flies.
A manure spreader is valuable to keep grass growing in fields. Try to keep horses off pastures that you just spread manure on for a least one full day.
*VERY IMPORTANT- Horses can not eat moldy hay. Please make sure your hay is fresh and dry, Colic is very painful and dangerous for your horse.
